Ridge augmentation is a common dental procedure designed to restore the natural contour of the gums and jaw. This may be needed due to bone loss following events like tooth extraction.
The alveolar ridge is the bony structure that houses the roots of the teeth. After a tooth is removed, an empty socket is left behind. Although this socket typically fills with bone and soft tissue over time, the natural healing process often reduces the original height and width of the ridge significantly.
Rebuilding the alveolar ridge's original dimensions may be necessary for several reasons, including dental implant placement and aesthetic improvement. Dental implants require sufficient bone support for stability, and a successful ridge augmentation can rebuild the necessary bone structure to accommodate the implant while enhancing the overall appearance of the smile.
Ridge augmentation restores your gum and jawline's natural shape by rebuilding bone after tooth loss. Bone graft material is placed in the socket, often post-extraction, avoiding later surgery.
A membrane is secured over the graft to help new bone growth. As it heals, the area regains height and width, ready for a dental implant.
Performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Hagar's office, sedation is available for comfort.
Fredericksburg Dentist & Implant Center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. We understand that even the slightest enhancement to your smile can boost your self-confidence and elevate your personal presence. When you feel good about your smile, it radiates in every aspect of your appearance.
