How can we make you smile?

Our mission is to help patients live healthier lives. We provide a caring, nurturing environment where your comfort and health is of primary importance.

After Implant Placement

What Can I Use For Teeth While The Implants Heal?

Many options are available and tailored to your specific needs. For example, if you require a replacement tooth while your implants are healing, we can provide temporary removable teeth or a temporary bridge. If you are missing all your teeth, we can modify your current complete denture or create a new temporary one. Alternatively, if you prefer non-removable teeth during the healing phase, temporary transitional implants can be placed alongside your permanent implants, allowing you to receive temporary teeth on the same day. In some cases, implants can even be immediately “loaded,” meaning that temporary or permanent replacement teeth can be placed on or shortly after the implant procedure, depending on your individual situation.

Are you ready to smile with confidence again?

Fredericksburg Dentist & Implant Center  provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. We understand that even the slightest enhancement to your smile can boost your self-confidence and elevate your personal presence. When you feel good about your smile, it radiates in every aspect of your appearance.

What Are The Potential Problems?

Occasionally, some patients may develop post-operative infections requiring additional antibiotics. Despite careful planning, there's a small risk of accidental injury to adjacent teeth during implant placement. Additionally, nerve irritation or damage is possible—for instance, affecting the nerve providing sensation to your lower lip and chin. Significant bone loss can make implant placement challenging without encroaching on nerve spaces. While we take every precaution, the nerve may be inadvertently irritated, causing tingling, numbness, or loss of feeling in your lip, chin, or tongue. These altered sensations may or may not resolve over time. Promptly notifying us of any post-operative numbness allows us to manage your care appropriately.

How Long Will The Implants Last?

Implants are designed to be a long-lasting solution. For patients missing all of their natural teeth, long-term studies spanning over 30 years reveal a success rate of 80 to 90 percent. For individuals missing one or several teeth, more recent research shows an even higher success rate of 90 to 95 percent—figures that compare favorably with implants used in other areas of the body, such as hips or knees. However, if an implant fails to heal properly or eventually becomes loose, it may need to be removed. Once the site has healed—or, in some instances, even during removal—a new implant can often be successfully placed.

When Are The Replacement Teeth Attached To The Implant?

Once your jawbone has adequately healed and fused with the implant, your final replacement teeth are attached. Depending on various factors, this restorative phase might begin immediately or shortly after implant placement. We will work closely with you to determine the optimal treatment sequence and timing based on your individual needs.
The process of creating your new teeth is detailed and involves fabricating the restorations prior to their placement. Most patients find this modern method much more comfortable and efficient than traditional approaches—often, the procedure can even be completed without the need for local anesthesia.
Your restorative journey begins with specialized impressions that allow us to craft a precise replica of your mouth and implants. Additionally, your family dentist will record your bite to capture the exact relationship of your upper and lower jaws. This comprehensive data enables your dentist to plan the abutments—components that secure the replacement teeth to the implants. Often, standard "off the shelf" abutments suffice, but in some cases, custom abutments made of gold or tooth-colored ceramic materials are required. These custom components can add to both the cost and the treatment time, and the choice between standard and custom abutments is typically finalized after the healing process and initial impressions.
Every patient's case is unique, so the number of appointments and the duration of each can vary. Precision and meticulous attention to detail are essential throughout the process, and sufficient time is allocated between appointments for the necessary laboratory work.
If your final restoration is a removable denture, your dentist will complete a series of impressions, bite records, and adjustments to fabricate not only your new teeth but also the retentive devices—such as custom support bars, snaps, magnets, or clips—that hold them in place. Throughout this phase, every effort is made to ensure you have comfortable, temporary replacement teeth.
Given the unique nature of each individual case, it is difficult to predict the exact cost and timeframe for the restorative phase before treatment begins. However, your dentist will provide you with an estimate and a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific situation.

How Do I Clean My New Teeth?

Just like natural teeth, implant-supported restorations need to be cleaned regularly with a toothbrush, floss, and any other recommended aids. It's also important to visit your dentist several times a year for checkups and professional hygiene maintenance. Over time, as with regular dentures and other tooth replacements, your implants and their associated components may experience wear and tear, requiring repairs such as clip replacements, relines, screw tightening, and other adjustments.

Will One Doctor Do Everything?

Usually, Dr. Hagar places the implant(s) and performs other necessary surgical procedures. Your family dentist provides the temporary and permanent replacement teeth. Both doctors are involved in planning your dental treatment. Also, depending upon a variety of factors, different dental specialists may help with your dental care.

How Much Does All Of This Cost?

Before treatment begins, we strive to provide you with an accurate estimate of all expenses related to implant placement and the fabrication of your replacement teeth. This includes initial diagnostic fees for clinical examinations, study models, various x-rays, and the creation of a surgical template to ensure precise implant placement. In addition, there are separate fees for the surgical procedure, the implants themselves, and the provisional and definitive prosthetic components—such as abutments, crowns, dentures, or other restorative elements. Periodic maintenance, including hygiene visits, tissue conditioners, denture relines, and other repairs, will also be subject to additional charges.
When multiple practitioners are involved in your treatment, each provider's services will be billed separately. Our staff will work with you to estimate your out-of-pocket expenses after considering insurance coverage or other third-party payments. Please note that personal financial planning is important, as some insurance companies may provide limited or no coverage for these procedures.
Every patient is unique, and it is not feasible to discuss every potential option and contingency ahead of time. This information is meant to give you a general overview of the available treatment options. If you have any questions about your specific circumstances or treatment plan, please let us know—we are here to help clarify any details and address all of your concerns about your dental care.
